Baker Botts Successfully Obtains Adjustment of Status to Lawful Permanent Resident for Salvadoran Man in Pro Bono Representation

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international law firm, is very proud to announce that firm lawyer, Lee Neel Davis, successfully represented a client from El Salvador in obtaining Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and then an adjustment of status to Lawful Permanent Resident (also known as a “green card”). Baker Botts partner Elaine Walsh supervised the matter.

The client came to the United States in November 2016, when he was 16 years old.  Baker Botts assisted the client in obtaining a custody order from Virginia state court, applying for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and preparing the client’s testimony and adjustment of status application.  The firm represented the client in a hearing in Arlington Immigration Court, at which Judge John Milo Bryant granted adjustment of status.  In a big day for the client, he also passed his exam to earn a G.E.D. on the morning of the hearing.

Baker Botts obtained the case through Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition (CAIR), which partners with law firms and other organizations in the Washington, D.C. region to represent immigrants who are at risk of detention and deportation.  Lee Davis also serves on CAIR’s Legal Advisory Committee and coordinates the firm’s pro bono activities with CAIR.
